The Subbuteo World Cup is scheduled to take place from September 20 to 22, with players from Bristol proudly qualifying for the event. Among them is Aaron Skinner, a member of the Bristol Subbuteo League, who expressed his excitement about representing England for the second time. "I can say it's coming home," he remarked, reminiscing about his childhood love for the game, which he described as "football but on a board." Skinner emphasized the significance of winning for England, highlighting the competitive spirit of the tournament. Mick Hammonds, another competitor from Team England and the Wolverhampton Subbuteo Club, shared his passion for the game and the camaraderie it fosters. He noted the long drives to Bristol for matches, stating that despite the challenges, the social connections and friendships formed worldwide make it worthwhile. Hammonds, who became Staffordshire Subbuteo champion at age 10, returned to the game after a break, spurred by a Christmas gift from his wife in 2016. His competitive nature has since propelled him to represent England on the international stage. In addition to English players, Matthew Rowley, a mobile DJ from Cardiff, aims to bring glory to Wales. Having represented his country five times, Rowley acknowledged the historical strength of Welsh players but admitted the competition may be tough. He expressed his love for Subbuteo, equating it to his passion for playing the real game, as the excitement builds for the upcoming World Cup.
