Jannik Sinner triumphed over Alexander Zverev in a thrilling match at the Cincinnati Open, securing a 7-6 (11/9), 5-7, 7-6 (7/4) victory on Sunday. This win marked the end of Sinner's losing streak against Zverev, as he showcased resilience by saving two set points in the first set and clinching the opener on his third opportunity. Despite a setback in the second set, where he lost an early break and faltered in the final game, Sinner expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, “It was a tough match, a very exciting match.” The 23-year-old Italian, who last claimed a title in Halle two months ago, is set to face American Francis Tiafoe in the final, which will take place on Monday. Sinner emphasized the importance of maintaining his fitness, especially after battling recent health issues, including a hip problem and tonsillitis. “If I’m going to win bigger matches, I have to be more in shape,” he noted, highlighting his mental strength throughout the match. In the other semifinal, Tiafoe staged a remarkable comeback against Danish 15th seed Holger Rune, winning 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7/4) after being down 5-2 in the final set. Tiafoe's victory makes him the first American man to reach the Cincinnati final since John Isner in 2013. Reflecting on his match, Tiafoe described the final set as “crazy” and credited his ability to play the percentages during the tiebreaker.
