In a dramatic rescue, a 12-year-old boy named Dwight Winbush saved his mother, Jonquetta Winbush, after she drove their car into a deep pond in West Orange, Texas, while experiencing a seizure. The incident occurred in late July when Jonquetta lost consciousness behind the wheel, causing the vehicle to accelerate into the water with her two children inside. Dwight and his 16-year-old sister managed to escape, but their mother was trapped as the car sank, leaving only the back bumper visible. Desperate for help, Dwight alerted nearby police officers, exclaiming, “She’s having a seizure! She’s stuck! She’s in the water, help her!” Assistant Police Chief Jessie Romero reported that veteran patrolman Charles Cobb was nearby and quickly responded to the scene. Bodycam footage captured the urgency of the situation as Dwight was placed in a patrol car for safety while Cobb rushed to the submerged vehicle. With the assistance of two bystanders, Corey Bull and Epifiano Munguia, Cobb worked to free Jonquetta from the car. After successfully pulling her from the water, Cobb administered chest compressions, managing to revive her until emergency medical services arrived. Although Jonquetta spent three weeks in intensive care, she is now on the road to recovery. In recognition of their heroic actions, Cobb, Bull, and Munguia received a life-saving award and commendation for their bravery during the rescue.
