Norway ramps up military presence near Russia amid rising tensions

Norway is strengthening its defense operations against Russia by establishing an amphibious warfare center in Sørreisa, located near the Arctic border. This center will facilitate training for US, British, and Dutch forces, despite Norway lacking its own amphibious capabilities. The establishment of the center is part of a broader push by Norway to bolster its military infrastructure in response to escalating tensions in the region, particularly following the invasion of Ukraine. Since that event, Norway has allocated nearly 16 billion kroner (approximately $1.44 billion) towards military bases in the Troms region.
