Salim Mehajer, the former deputy mayor of Auburn, is preparing to sell his deteriorating six-bedroom mansion in Lidcombe, Sydney, which features a 13-car garage. The property, once a symbol of his lavish lifestyle, has fallen into disrepair during Mehajer's 11-month prison sentence for election fraud and subsequent bankruptcy declaration in 2018. The mansion, which he previously attempted to lease for nearly $3,000 a week, gained notoriety after hosting his extravagant wedding in 2015. The decline of the property has been stark, with reports indicating that its exterior has significantly deteriorated since Mehajer's incarceration. The Federal Circuit Court declared him bankrupt after a liquidator's petition revealed he owed $600,000 to a marble company for staircase work, which was also featured in a music video by US rapper Bow Wow. In addition to the staircase costs, Mehajer faces an additional $400,000 in legal fees. During a bail hearing, Mehajer described his financial situation as "an absolute mess," citing frozen bank accounts that have impacted his business and personal life. He expressed concern that his circumstances could lead to a "catastrophe." Real estate expert Jason Boon estimates the mansion could sell for around $4 million, while Mehajer's former investment property was sold for $2.1 million after being purchased for $857,500 in 2013 and subsequently demolished.
