Barricades Remain on FC Road After PM Modi's Cancelled Visit
- Prime Minister Modi's visit to Pune was cancelled on September 26 due to heavy rainfall.
- Barricades set up by the Pune Municipal Corporation for the visit remained in place, causing inconvenience to cyclists.
- The PMC plans to keep the barricades until after another scheduled event on September 29.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was set to visit Pune on September 26 to inaugurate significant development projects, including the District Court to Swargate stretch of Pune Metro, totaling ₹22,600 crore. However, due to heavy rainfall in the city, the visit was cancelled. In preparation for the event, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had installed barricades on the roads expected to be used by the Prime Minister. Despite the cancellation, these barricades remained in place two days later, causing inconvenience to local cyclists and pedestrians. An X user highlighted this issue, prompting a response from the PMC, which acknowledged the complaint and provided a complaint token number for tracking. The PMC stated that the barricades would not be removed until after another scheduled event on September 29. Chetana Kerure, Deputy Commissioner of Zone 5, explained that the barricades were necessary for the upcoming program and downplayed the inconvenience caused to cyclists, asserting that the barricades occupy minimal space. The situation reflects the challenges faced by local authorities in managing public infrastructure and events, especially in adverse weather conditions.
