Vistara merges with Air India: What travelers need to know

The merger of Vistara with Air India, announced recently, has raised numerous questions among Vistara's customers regarding their travel plans and loyalty benefits. Starting September 3, 2024, Vistara will cease to accept bookings for flights beyond November 11, 2024. From November 12, 2024, all flights will be operated by Air India, and customers with existing bookings for travel after this date will have their flights transitioned to Air India, retaining their original PNRs but receiving new e-ticket numbers. For frequent flyers, the merger will integrate Vistara's Club Vistara loyalty program into Air India's Flying Returns program. This transition allows customers to carry over their accumulated loyalty points, ensuring they can continue to enjoy benefits. However, changes may occur in specific loyalty program features as the two systems merge. Lounge access purchased for Vistara flights before November 11, 2024, will remain valid, but customers who booked lounge access for flights after this date will need to seek refunds and rebook through Air India. Additionally, Vistara co-branded credit cards will still be valid, although some benefits may change as the merger progresses. This merger is a strategic move for Air India, aiming to consolidate its position in the competitive Indian aviation market. With Singapore Airlines holding a significant stake in the newly combined entity, the partnership is expected to enhance operational efficiency and customer service, ultimately benefiting travelers in the long run.
