- Prime Minister Modi will meet Indian athletes returning from Paris Olympics on August 15 in New Delhi.
- Javelin legend Neeraj Chopra won't attend as he went to Germany for medical advice.
- India clinched 6 medals - 5 bronze and 1 silver in Paris Olympics 2024.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet with Indian athletes returning from the Paris Olympics 2024 on August 15 in New Delhi. Notably absent from this gathering will be javelin star Neeraj Chopra, who has traveled to Germany for medical consultations and is expected to be away for at least a month. This meeting comes on the heels of Team India's commendable performance at the Olympics, where they secured a total of six medals, marking their second-best showing after the Tokyo 2020 Games. India's medal haul in Paris included five bronze and one silver, with notable achievements from shooters Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh, and Swapnil Kusale, who each earned bronze medals. Neeraj Chopra contributed to the tally by winning silver in the men's javelin final, while the Indian men's hockey team claimed bronze, repeating their success from the previous Olympics. Wrestler Aman Sehrawat rounded out the medal count with another bronze. There remains a possibility for India to increase its medal count, pending a decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding Vinesh Phogat's disqualification from the women's freestyle wrestling final. Phogat was disqualified for being 100 grams over the weight limit, a ruling that has been contested by her and the Indian Olympic Association. The CAS is expected to announce its verdict on August 13, 2024, which could potentially award a joint-silver medal to Phogat.
