Australian driver Oscar Piastri has disclosed that he competed in the last two Formula 1 races before the summer break with a fractured rib. The 23-year-old, who is in his second season with McLaren, has made a significant impact alongside teammate Lando Norris, currently sitting fourth in the drivers' standings with 167 points. Piastri's performance includes a notable victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, where he won under controversial circumstances after Norris was instructed to let him pass. Piastri shared the news of his injury on social media platform X/Twitter, revealing that an X-ray taken on July 8, the day after the British Grand Prix, confirmed the fracture. Despite the injury, he has continued to perform well, finishing fourth at Silverstone and securing his first grand prix win in Budapest. His recent success also includes a second-place finish in Belgium, following the disqualification of George Russell, marking his fourth podium of the season. As the F1 circuit enters a summer break, Piastri expressed optimism about his recovery, stating, “Rib’s enjoying the break.” With the Dutch Grand Prix set to take place from August 23-25, there are no indications that his participation will be affected. McLaren, currently trailing Red Bull by 42 points in the constructors' standings, aims to capitalize on Piastri's strong start as they look to contend for the title in the remaining races of the 2024 season.
