Flooding in Arizona claims four lives and chaos ensues

The local authorities reported that at least four individuals have been confirmed dead, with rescue operations underway in search of any additional victims who may have been caught in the floodwaters. Reports indicated that three of the deceased were found in various locations, including two victims who drowned in a vehicle and another individual discovered in the floodwaters. A fourth victim was located outside a vehicle in suburban Phoenix after the floodwaters had receded. Gila County Emergency Services have stated that a massive search and rescue operation is currently ongoing, with local officials looking into reports of missing persons as concerns grow within the community, where many buildings have suffered damage. As the storm and ensuing flooding unfolded, emergency management services quickly dispatched hazmat crews to address the hazardous situation created by around 1,000 residential-sized propane tanks that were washed away from a distribution facility. This has raised immediate concerns about potential hazards related to propane and other chemicals in the waters, prompting officials to urge residents to stay away from affected areas due to the danger and ongoing rescue efforts. The city of Globe has declared a state of emergency, as many community members participated in search and rescue efforts amidst their grief, highlighting how quickly circumstances can shift from routine to tragic. Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has also declared a state of emergency for Gila County to expedite the allocation of resources and assistance to impacted areas.
