Scammers Exploit Oasis Fans as 90% Fall Victim to Fraud

Hundreds of Oasis fans have recently reported falling victim to ticket fraud in the lead-up to the highly anticipated reunion tour confirmed by Liam and Noel Gallagher. Between August 27 and September 25, the vast majority of reported scams began with misleading advertisements on social media, urging fans to pay upfront for tickets. Once payments were made, scammers disappeared, leaving fans without tickets and out of pocket. The impact of these scams affected around 70 percent of the victims, highlighting a concerning trend among eager concert-goers. In response to the rise in ticket scams, Lloyds Bank has issued warnings to potential buyers, emphasizing the risks of paying via bank transfers, particularly for tickets listed on social platforms. New reimbursement rules introduced in October provide some protection for victims of authorized push payment fraud, requiring banks to reimburse customers unless they were grossly negligent. However, the maximum limit for these reimbursements is £85,000 and does not apply retroactively, raising concerns about adequate consumer protection. Alongside the fraudulent ticket sales, the Competition and Markets Authority has launched an investigation into Ticketmaster's practices surrounding the sale of Oasis tickets. Fans have expressed frustration over 'dynamic pricing' that inflated ticket costs and potential unfair commercial practices.
