Sixwire Band Plays Classic Hits at RNC

As the 2024 Republican National Convention unfolds in Milwaukee, the Nashville-based band Sixwire has emerged as a highlight, captivating attendees with their energetic classic rock covers. Known for their renditions of popular tracks like "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Life is a Highway," the five-member group provided an unexpected extended performance following a teleprompter malfunction on the convention's opening night. Despite having only released one album in 2002, Sixwire has established a reputation beyond that of a typical cover band. The band consists of lead singer and guitarist Andy Childs, keyboardist Steve Hornbeak, bass guitarist John Howard, guitarist Steve Mandile, and drummer Chuck Tilley. Their name, derived from a slang term for guitar, reflects their unique composition, featuring three guitarists. Sixwire has previously served as the house band for various reality TV shows and even backed Connie Britton's character on the ABC drama "Nashville." Notably, they were also ESPN's first house band during the 2019 NFL Draft. The convention has also featured performances from other artists, including country singer Chris Janson, who sang "Buy Me a Boat" on the first night. Additionally, a parody rap song titled "Trump Trump Baby" was showcased, further adding to the event's entertainment. However, the RNC has faced challenges in securing music rights, with several artists, including Queen and Bruce Springsteen, denying permission for their songs to be used at campaign events.
