Buffalo Doctor Rescues Dogs by Flying

A Buffalo surgeon is making headlines for his unique approach to animal rescue, flying his plane to save dogs from kill shelters in other states and transporting them to safety at local rescue centers. Brandon Wolf, a board member of Nickel City Canine Rescue, shared his experiences on "Good Morning America," highlighting the impact of their mission. He noted that their recent transport efforts have raised between $7,000 and $8,000, prompting increased interest in fostering, adopting, and volunteering. Dr. Rambarran, the surgeon involved in the rescue operations, typically conducts these flights about once a month, often retrieving dogs from Noah's Advocates for Animals in Asheville, North Carolina. He explained that organizations like his connect pilots with various shelters, facilitating the transport of dogs from high-risk environments. Since its inception in late 2018, the rescue program has successfully saved approximately 3,700 dogs, many of whom are found in dire conditions before being brought to safety. Wolf emphasized that there are numerous ways for individuals to contribute to animal rescue efforts beyond fostering. He encouraged community involvement, whether through transportation assistance or participation in events. "Anything that you could do for your local rescue or shelter is appreciated beyond means," he stated. Rambarran also shared that his daughters, aged 12 and 10, have joined him in this mission, reinforcing the importance of volunteerism and community service. He expressed joy in the simple pleasures of rescuing dogs, describing the affection he receives from the animals as a rewarding experience.
