Story

Glendale, CA – The Martial Arts History Museum celebrated the induction of six distinguished individuals into its Hall of Fame during a ceremony held at its new location in Glendale. The event attracted a nearly full audience of spectators and peers, highlighting the significance of the honorees' contributions to martial arts history. The Hall of Fame recognizes ten individuals annually for their exceptional achievements, with this year’s inductees including Jun Chong, Michelle Manu, and Robert Redfeather. Additionally, Bill Webber, Joan Kosche, and Robin Price received the prestigious Funakoshi Contributors Award for their selfless dedication to the martial arts community. Since its inception in 1999, the Martial Arts History Museum has aimed to serve as the definitive repository of martial arts history in America, a role that has become increasingly important as the martial arts have gained prominence in American culture since the 1960s. Museum president Michael Matsuda emphasized the need for a centralized Hall of Fame, stating that the martial arts community lacked organization and that numerous unofficial halls were emerging worldwide. The museum recently expanded from a 1,600 square foot facility in Burbank to an 8,000 square foot space in Glendale, where a dedicated Hall of Fame Wall now honors all inductees since 1999. To enhance visitor experience, the museum plans to launch a fundraising campaign for a kiosk that will provide access to biographies and videos of Hall of Fame members.
