Bain's bold transition to SAP S/4HANA Cloud transforms operations

In July 2023, Bain & Company completed a significant transition to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, establishing a new foundation for its global financial operations. Ramesh Razdan, the Global Chief Technology/Information Officer at Bain, stated that they executed this initiative by leveraging their own playbook, akin to methods used with clients worldwide in collaboration with SAP. Bain's approach incorporated best practices in change management which combined elements from SAP with its own processes, focused on minimizing customizations for better flexibility. Stephen Mackey, Bain's EVP of Global Finance, expressed the importance of adhering to industry standards to facilitate smoother integrations for future acquisitions. By maintaining a clean core, they aimed to avoid potential complications from maintaining multiple systems in parallel. Transparency and rigorous metrics were crucial throughout the implementation process. Razdan highlighted the necessity of measuring value consistently among internal and external stakeholders while maintaining clear communication. Even during the challenges of the pandemic and the shift to remote work, Bain managed to complete the implementation within three years, an accomplishment Razdan deemed remarkable. Since the launch, Bain has ensured that all core financials globally are now running on the SAP platform, showcasing a strong belief in the benefits this change brings to their operations moving forward.
