EU donates six ecological buses to help combat air pollution in Skopje
- JSP received six new ecological buses that run on compressed natural gas.
- The donation is part of a larger project worth 10 million euros aimed at reducing air pollution in several cities.
- This initiative is crucial for improving public transport and reducing carbon emissions in the region.
In Skopje, North Macedonia, the Public Transportation Company (JSP) received a significant donation of six ecological buses powered by compressed natural gas. This event occurred today as part of the 'EU for Clean Air' project aimed at improving air quality in urban areas facing high pollution levels. The project is valued at 10 million euros and was officially handed over by the European Union ambassador to North Macedonia, Mihail Rokas. The initiative addresses a serious environmental issue in several Macedonian cities, including Bitola, Kumanovo, Skopje, and Tetovo, which have struggled with increasing air pollution, particularly during the heating season. With rising carbon dioxide emissions largely attributed to public transport and individual vehicles, these new buses represent a step towards reducing dependency on polluting transport alternatives and encouraging the public to utilize less harmful modes of transportation. Rokas emphasized the necessity of making public transport as eco-friendly as possible to improve citizens' health and contribute to a cleaner environment. By integrating compressed natural gas buses, JSP aims to significantly lower pollutants in the air and support a healthier urban living condition for its residents.
