On October 29, 2024, in Gatineau, Quebec, the Independent Special Interlocutor for Missing Children and Unmarked Graves, Kimberly R. Murray, will unveil her Final Report and an Indigenous-led Reparations Framework. This report is the culmination of extensive consultations with Survivors, Indigenous families, and communities across Canada, aimed at addressing the historical injustices faced by Indigenous children associated with Indian Residential Schools. The report will outline necessary elements for creating a reparations framework, emphasizing the importance of culturally appropriate measures for the treatment of unmarked graves and burial sites. The Interlocutor's mandate, which has been extended to December 2024, focuses on ensuring respectful handling of these sensitive sites and providing recommendations to the federal government.
