Sheridan Smith was spotted on set in North Tyneside on Friday, wearing a short greying wig and a dark mauve padded jacket while filming the upcoming drama series "I Fought The Law." The series tells the poignant story of Ann Ming, who successfully campaigned to overturn the UK's 800-year-old 'double jeopardy' law after the murder of her daughter, Julie Hogg. Julie was tragically murdered by William 'Billy' Dunlop, who was acquitted twice despite later confessing to the crime. The narrative unfolds around the harrowing events of January 1990, when Ann discovered her daughter's body hidden in the bathroom of her home, 80 days after her disappearance. Julie, a young mother of three-year-old Kevin, was only 22 when she was killed. Dunlop had strangled and sexually mutilated her before concealing her body, evading justice due to the legal limitations of the time. After nearly 17 years of relentless campaigning, Ann succeeded in amending the law, leading to Dunlop's life sentence. In addition to her role in "I Fought The Law," Smith is reportedly set to return for the final episode of the beloved sitcom "Gavin & Stacey," which will air as a Christmas special. Despite earlier reports suggesting no discussions had taken place regarding her return, the actress, now 42, is expected to join the iconic cast for this much-anticipated finale. Ann Ming, now in her late 70s, is actively consulting on the production, ensuring that her story is told with authenticity and respect. Filming for the series began earlier this week in Hartlepool, County Durham, with Smith also portraying Julie's former profession as a nurse.
