Story

In a bid to improve employee safety, Mitie, a FTSE 250 facilities and security company, has entered into a partnership with WalkSafe Pro, an app designed to assist commuters in finding safe routes when travelling home after dark. This collaboration comes as concerns grow around the safety of employees during the longer evenings, particularly for those who work late shifts. WalkSafe Pro guides users through well-lit pathways and alerts designated contacts if they do not reach their destination on time. Emma Kay, the founder of WalkSafe Pro, highlighted that employers are increasingly taking on the responsibility of ensuring the safety of their staff, especially in light of challenges faced by police forces that are often overextended and unable to provide adequate support in every situation. Under this new agreement, Mitie will establish a staffed control center for companies utilizing the WalkSafe Pro app. Employees are able to use the app to map their routes home, and in the event they deviate or fail to arrive as expected, a Mitie worker will reach out to them, further enhancing the safety net for employees who may feel vulnerable during their commutes. Overall, this initiative signifies a proactive step towards addressing employee safety concerns on the streets during darker hours by leveraging technology and increased communication from a security provider.
