Lachlan Morton sets record pace on 14,200km Australia journey

Lachlan Morton, an Australian professional cyclist, is undertaking a challenging journey to cycle around Australia, covering a distance of 14,200km. He is currently more than one-third of the way through this odyssey, which is markedly different from traditional racing. The current record for this circumnavigation is held by David Alley, who completed it in 37 days, 20 hours, and 45 minutes in 2011. Morton has reached Darwin and is following a route that includes eight key locations: Sydney, Brisbane, Darwin, Broome, Perth, Esperance, Adelaide, and Melbourne. Morton, who has a background in professional road cycling, has previously participated in prestigious events like the Tour of Utah, Vuelta a España, and Giro d’Italia. His experience includes a notable 2,500km ride from Port Macquarie to Uluru with his brother, which they documented in a film titled 'Thereabouts.' This current journey requires him to adapt to the unpredictable conditions of the Australian outback, contrasting with the controlled environment of professional racing.
