Story

Boucher Playing Fields in South Belfast is gearing up for the highly anticipated Emerge dance festival, expected to attract around 70,000 fans in 2024. Among the lineup is local DJ K.A.D, also known as Kerryann Denny, who will open one of the festival's stages on Saturday. At just 28 years old, K.A.D has quickly risen in the music scene, having started her DJ career three years ago after receiving a set of decks as a Christmas gift from her boyfriend. She expressed her initial apprehension about public perception but has since found support from her boyfriend, sister, and friends. K.A.D's journey has been remarkable; last year, she performed on the emerging talent stage, and this year, she will take the spotlight in front of approximately 7,000 attendees at the Shine tent. Reflecting on her experience, she noted, "If I'm dancing in the crowd, I've always seen myself on that stage, and this is where it's led to." Her story highlights the festival's role in nurturing local talent and providing a platform for artists to showcase their skills. Joe Dougan, the festival organizer, revealed that planning for this year's event has been in the works for about a year and a half. He emphasized the complexity of delivering a high-quality audio-visual experience, which includes screens, CO2 effects, and fireworks, alongside curating a diverse lineup of talent. This year's Emerge festival promises to feature both new and international acts, including the debut of Brutilismus3000 in Belfast, further enhancing the event's appeal and showcasing the city's vibrant music scene.
