A 73-year-old woman has been arrested in Bath on suspicion of administering a noxious substance, following an alarming incident that resulted in one woman being hospitalized. Emergency services responded to reports on Monday afternoon of a woman approaching individuals with a suspicious bag on Stall Street, leading to two people feeling unwell. Upon arrival, emergency workers donned protective clothing and established a cordon around the area due to concerns about the contents of the bag. Despite extensive examinations, no hazardous substances were detected. One woman, who experienced difficulty breathing and itchy eyes, was taken to the hospital but was later discharged the same evening. The cordon was implemented shortly after 3:00 PM BST, prompting nearby businesses, including La Baguette, to close for the day. The area was cleared and the cordon lifted around 8:00 PM BST after thorough testing confirmed the absence of any chemical threats. Ch Insp Scott Hill from the Bath Neighbourhood Policing Team reassured the public that there was no ongoing risk and encouraged anyone with concerns to approach officers patrolling the city center. Police investigations are ongoing to determine if a crime was committed in connection with the incident.
