Story

Jack White, the former frontman of the White Stripes, is set to return to the Corner Hotel in Melbourne this December for a special performance. This venue holds significant importance for White, as it was here that he famously played the riff for "Seven Nation Army" during a sound check in January 2002. The gig is part of Victoria’s Always Live initiative, a 17-day music program that aims to revitalize the live music scene in Australia following the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Always Live initiative, now in its third year, will feature a diverse lineup, including artists such as St Vincent, Róisín Murphy, the Offspring, and rising star Anyma. White's performance at the 750-capacity venue is particularly notable, as "Seven Nation Army" became a defining hit for the White Stripes, topping Billboard’s Alternative chart and winning a Grammy for Best Rock Song. The song's iconic riff has since become a staple at sports events and music festivals worldwide. In addition to his Melbourne show, White will perform in regional Victoria, specifically at Ballarat’s Civic Hall the night before. The Always Live program, funded by the Victorian government, aims to support local music and includes over 65 events, with more than a third taking place in regional areas. This initiative has previously featured big names like Foo Fighters and Christina Aguilera, showcasing a commitment to reviving the live music industry.
