Nippon Express launches innovative warehouse project in Tokyo, Sept 2024

Nippon Express has initiated the "NX Universal Harmonious Work Warehouse" project, aimed at enhancing warehouse operations by integrating advanced logistics technologies. This initiative is a response to the anticipated labor shortages in Japan's logistics sector, exacerbated by new regulations on truck driver overtime and demographic challenges such as an aging population and declining birthrate. The project will first implement next-generation mobility systems from WHILL Inc. at the Kazo Warehouse, facilitating tasks for individuals with mobility difficulties. The introduction of short-range mobility systems, along with automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), is designed to improve productivity and create a more inclusive work environment. By enabling those with walking difficulties to engage in warehouse operations, Nippon Express aims to remove barriers that have historically limited workforce participation. As the project expands, Nippon Express plans to establish multiple "Universal Harmonious Work Warehouses" that accommodate a diverse range of workers.
