During National Child Passenger Safety Week, which runs from September 15-23, parents and caregivers in Denver have the opportunity to have their car seats inspected for free by certified child passenger safety technicians. This initiative aims to address the alarming statistic that 78% of car seats inspected last year were either improperly installed or not used correctly, marking an 8% increase in misuse from the previous year. The inspections are scheduled at various locations throughout Denver, including Parkfield Lake Park and Central Park Recreation Center on September 17, Aztlan Recreation Center and Sloan's Lake Park Playground North on September 19, and Garfield Lake Park and Ruby Hill Park on September 21. Each session is designed to ensure that car seats are installed and adjusted properly for the safety of children. In addition to the inspections, families will be treated to complimentary ice cream, courtesy of AAA, and provided with valuable car seat safety resources. This community effort is supported by organizations such as DOTI, WeeCycle, and Denver Health, which will also distribute free car seats to eligible families while supplies last. The initiative not only emphasizes the importance of proper car seat usage but also aims to educate parents and caregivers about child passenger safety. By participating in these inspections, families can significantly reduce the risk of injury in the event of a car accident, making this event a crucial public safety measure.
