Tiler Creates Shaun of the Dead Pub Shed
- A tiler from Hampshire wins Pub Shed of the Year for recreating iconic movie pub.
- The shed features a £1,500 bar and beer taps.
- An impressive tribute to the movie Shaun of the Dead.
In a remarkable display of dedication, 55-year-old Kev Marchant has transformed his backyard into a replica of the iconic Winchester pub from the cult classic film "Shaun of the Dead." The project, which cost him £10,000 and took six weeks to complete, showcases meticulous attention to detail, featuring an ornate bar, a poker table, a dartboard, and vintage décor, all reminiscent of the original setting. Marchant's vision was to capture the essence of an old Working Men’s Club, utilizing reclaimed materials to enhance the authentic atmosphere. He aimed to recreate the famous quote from the film: “Grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over.” The pub's design includes themed carpeting and tiling, contributing to its old-school charm, which Marchant believes adds character to the space. To fund his dream, Marchant sold his old camper van, which not only provided the necessary finances but also cleared the garage for the project. The pub measures 6m by 3m and boasts a selection of beers on tap, including Stella, Fosters, Guinness, and Carlsberg, alongside a variety of spirits and bottled drinks. Stools line the bar, and historic brewery badges adorn the walls, creating a nostalgic pub experience right at home. Reflecting on his creation, Marchant expressed satisfaction, stating, “It’s the best thing we ever did - plus it's a cheap taxi ride home.” His backyard pub is a testament to his passion for both the film and the traditional pub culture.
