Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is set to enter the upcoming NFL season with a notable weight loss of 25 pounds since 2022. In a recent interview with CBS Sports, the two-time NFL MVP candidly shared his motivation for shedding the extra weight, stating, "I felt like I was fat." Jackson reflected on watching old game footage, particularly from a match against the Cleveland Browns, and felt he appeared out of shape despite being fit at the time. The 27-year-old quarterback, known for his exceptional speed, expressed concerns about looking slower in past games. "My eyes might be deceiving me, but I believe I looked a little slower to me," he remarked, emphasizing his desire to maintain his agility on the field. Currently weighing around 205 pounds, Jackson's new physique is expected to enhance his conditioning and reduce fatigue during games. Jackson's impressive track record includes setting the record for single-season rushing yards by a quarterback in 2019, with 1,206 yards. Last season, he recorded five rushing touchdowns and accumulated 821 rushing yards, contributing to the Ravens' successful 2023-24 campaign, which ended with a 13-4 record and a playoff run that concluded in the conference championship against the Kansas City Chiefs. As the Ravens prepare for their first preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that Jackson will not be participating, allowing him to focus on his training and recovery as he gears up for the regular season.
