Story

SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium (AP) — In a significant leadership change, Alpine team principal Bruno Famin will resign from his position by the end of August, as announced by the Formula One team on Friday. Famin will oversee his final race at the Belgian Grand Prix this Sunday before the team enters a summer break, with the next race scheduled for the Dutch Grand Prix on August 25. The announcement regarding his successor will be made in due course. Despite Famin's tenure, Alpine has struggled in the current season, sitting in eighth place in the constructors’ championship with a mere nine points. The team's drivers, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon, have contributed six and three points, respectively. Notably, Ocon is the only driver to have secured a race victory for Alpine since the team rebranded from Renault at the end of 2020. He is set to join Haas for the upcoming season. Famin will continue to lead all other motorsport operations for the Renault Group at its Viry-Chatillon engine facility, ensuring a smooth transition as the team prepares for the future. The departure of Famin raises questions about the team's direction and performance, particularly as they seek a new partner for Gasly ahead of the 2025 season. As Alpine navigates this leadership change, the focus will be on improving their competitive standing and securing a stronger lineup for the upcoming seasons.
