Story

A 37-year-old private maths tutor, Holly Rouse-Sweeney, has been sentenced to six years in prison for sexually abusing a vulnerable teenage boy. The abuse occurred after she tutored the boy online and arranged to meet him at her former residence in Nottinghamshire. Despite knowing the boy was under the age of consent, Rouse-Sweeney engaged in sexual contact with him multiple times. The case came to light when the boy's mother discovered inappropriate messages on his phone and alerted the police in May of last year. Investigating officers found incriminating diary entries on Rouse-Sweeney's laptop, where she detailed the abuse and acknowledged the boy's true age. She ultimately pleaded guilty to two counts of engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity and four counts of causing a boy to engage in sexual activity. During the court proceedings, Rouse-Sweeney claimed that her actions were influenced by a long-standing mental health condition. However, Nottingham Crown Court sentenced her to six years in prison on August 9, and she was placed on the sex offenders’ register. Additionally, she is subject to a sexual harm prevention order that will impose strict limitations on her activities upon release. Nottinghamshire Police issued a statement confirming the sentencing and highlighting the restraining order that prohibits Rouse-Sweeney from any future contact with her victim, emphasizing the seriousness of her offenses.
