Hayward Police Investigate Fatal Shooting of Teen Girl

Hayward police are investigating a tragic shooting that claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl on Sunday morning in the Harder-Tennyson neighborhood. The incident occurred around 11:15 a.m. near the 900 block of West Tennyson Road, where officers discovered the girl suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after. A second victim was located nearby on Ruus Road, although authorities believe the two were not acquainted. Mayor Mark Salinas expressed his devastation over the incident, particularly given the victim's young age. "It hits even harder," he remarked, highlighting the emotional toll such tragedies take on the community. Police Chief Bryan Matthews indicated that investigators are still working to ascertain the girl's role in the shooting, noting evidence suggests an exchange of gunfire between two groups.
