A Detroit bar has earned national acclaim, being named one of the best in the country by USA Today. The list, curated by writers from across the United States, features a diverse range of establishments, including neighborhood taverns and cocktail bars. Among the selected venues is Paramita Sound, a Black-owned wine bar and record shop located at 1517 Broadway St., which has garnered attention for its unique community-focused atmosphere. Lyndsay C. Green, a food writer for the Detroit Free Press, highlighted Paramita Sound's minimalist approach and local-first bar program, stating, "For its intentional way the space cultivates community through music, Paramita Sound is Detroit's Bar of the Year." Founded by Andrey Douthard in 2014, the bar initially opened in an abandoned house in the West Village before relocating to its current site, a historic venue that once served as a hub for Detroit's music scene. The bar not only offers a selection of Michigan wines and beers but also provides a platform for local artists and DJs to perform, further enriching the cultural fabric of the community. This recognition comes on the heels of another Detroit establishment being named the most beautiful restaurant in Michigan by People Magazine, showcasing the city's vibrant culinary and nightlife scene.
