A remarkable achievement has been made by 18-year-old Anthony Knight from Minehead, who has successfully raised £12,000 for disadvantaged children worldwide through his musical talent. Knight recently completed an ambitious challenge of performing on his violin in 12 countries over the span of 12 months, with the funds benefiting Unicef. His journey covered approximately 13,500 miles, featuring performances in notable European cities such as Vienna, Riga, Paris, and Bern. Knight's passion for music and philanthropy has not only led him to this impressive milestone but has also inspired him to set a new fundraising target of £20,000. He plans to achieve this by performing in 20 cathedrals across Europe next year. Previously, he raised funds for the Ukraine Appeal by playing in churches throughout Somerset, but he sought to expand his efforts on a more global scale, beginning his travels in August 2023 while balancing his A-level studies during school holidays. Reflecting on his journey, Knight expressed admiration for the historical significance of the cities he visited, particularly noting the influence of composers Beethoven and Mozart. His performances have taken place in various venues, including the lobbies of upscale hotels, where he has received warm hospitality from guests and staff alike.
