HOUSTON (AP) — IndyCar driver David Malukas has officially signed a multiyear contract with A.J. Foyt Racing, marking a significant turn in his career following his recent dismissal from Arrow McLaren. The announcement came on Tuesday, over three months after the 22-year-old was let go due to a wrist injury sustained in a mountain biking accident, which prevented him from competing in multiple races. Malukas expressed enthusiasm about joining A.J. Foyt Racing, stating that both the team and its legendary founder played a crucial role in his decision. "I am starting a new chapter in my IndyCar career, and I am eager to achieve strong results with A.J. Foyt Racing," he said, highlighting his commitment to the team’s future success. Previously, Malukas was signed to McLaren’s three-car IndyCar lineup after a contract breach by two-time series champion Alex Palou. However, his injury led to an unexpected absence from four consecutive races, triggering a clause that allowed McLaren to terminate his contract. He made his return to racing in June with Meyer Shank Racing. Team president Larry Foyt expressed confidence in Malukas's potential, stating, "David will be a great addition to A.J. Foyt Racing," and emphasized that he would be a vital asset as the team aims to improve its standings in the IndyCar series. The next race is scheduled for Saturday at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 in Madison, Illinois.
