Maharashtra strengthens security amid rising border tensions with Pakistan
- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held a security review meeting today with senior officials to assess border tensions.
- This meeting follows similar gatherings in Gujarat and Rajasthan aimed at enhancing security in sensitive areas.
- The series of meetings underline the urgency to strengthen national security in light of rising threats from across the border.
In light of escalating tensions along the India-Pakistan border, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis convened a high-level security review meeting today at Varsha Bungalow in Mumbai. This meeting involves senior police officials and administrative personnel aiming to evaluate the current security situation and to boost preparedness. The urgent need for these measures comes after an incident in which Indian air defenses intercepted Pakistani drones over the Jaisalmer region, leading to concerns about national security and public safety. On the same day, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also led a security review meeting at the State Emergency Operation Centre in Gandhinagar, focusing on the state's readiness in light of recent cross-border tensions. Key members of the local government, including officials from the Home Department and the Border Security Force, participated to ensure a coordinated effort amid the heightened security alerts following concerning developments along the border. Previously, security discussions were held by other significant state leaders, including Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. His meeting focused on maintaining a high alert status and reinforcing security infrastructure, particularly in border areas which are deemed sensitive. This proactive stance stems from the interception of drones and subsequent explosions reported across several districts, prompting urgent calls for heightened vigilance. These meetings reflect a broader concern as Indian security forces have recently undertaken military operations, termed ‘Operation Sindoor,’ targeting terrorist infrastructure within Pakistan. The operations were a direct response to a recent terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the death of 26 individuals, solidifying the Indian government’s commitment to maintaining security and stability in the region. Public figures, including former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, have expressed solidarity with the armed forces and urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, emphasizing unity in the face of challenges posed by terrorism and regional instability.
