Ukrainian man and his kitten survive terrifying escape from war

This case is not an isolated incident; since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the number of Ukrainian men attempting to escape military conscription through hazardous routes has been alarming, with over 160 men rescued from Romania’s Maramures region alone. The urgency of their situations reflects the fears faced by those trying to avoid being drafted, as the number of such rescues has doubled each year.
