On June 19, 2025, Fox Corporation announced the acquisition of Caliente TV, a prominent sports broadcasting platform in Mexico. This strategic move is part of Fox's broader commitment to enhance its presence in the Latin American sports streaming market. The acquisition allows Fox to tap into a significant audience and leverage a strong portfolio of sports broadcasting rights. Carlos Martinez has been appointed as the executive vice president and managing director, leading Fox's broadcasting strategy in the region. Through this acquisition, Fox aims to build a comprehensive sports streaming business, deploying numerous platforms to maximize viewer engagement. The expected outcomes include not only the launch of a new Pay TV channel but also the development of a subscription video on demand (SVOD) platform. This will complement the existing ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) platform, Tubi, and enable Fox to produce and distribute over 3,000 hours of original sports content. The deal significantly enhances Fox's sports broadcasting rights, now including key leagues and tournaments. The acquired rights feature broadcasts from major leagues such as Liga MX men’s and women’s clubs, the CONCACAF Champions Cup, Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and more. This extensive rights portfolio positions Fox as a leader in sports content in Mexico and potentially Central America. The leadership of Carlos Martinez, who has extensive industry experience, is expected to drive the operational and strategic direction of the new channels and platforms. Martinez has over three decades of experience in the broadcast industry, having held executive roles at notable companies like Turner, Discovery, and Fox. His expertise will be instrumental in implementing the vision for multi-platform broadcasting, further entrenching Fox’s dominance in the ever-expanding sports media landscape in Latin America.
