The junta's assertion aims to quell unrest and maintain stability ahead of a visit from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Social media claims circulated on Tuesday alleging that Min Aung Hlaing had been detained in Naypyidaw, prompting the military to label these reports as attempts to disrupt national peace. The junta emphasized that its leadership remains intact and committed to fulfilling its responsibilities. The timing of these rumors coincides with Wang Yi's visit, which is intended to strengthen bilateral cooperation between China and Myanmar. China has been a significant ally and arms supplier to the junta, yet it also engages with ethnic armed groups controlling territories near its border. Recently, an alliance of these groups has made significant territorial gains in northern Shan state, including the capture of a military command in Lashio, marking a notable setback for the junta. This development has led to rare public dissent from military supporters, further complicating the junta's position. Min Aung Hlaing has alleged that the ethnic alliance is receiving foreign weapons, including drones and missiles, although he did not specify the sources.
