Kendrick Castillo sacrifices life to stop school shooter, now considered for sainthood

In 2019, Kendrick Castillo, an 18-year-old student at STEM School Highlands Ranch in Colorado, was tragically killed when he charged at a school shooter during an active attack. The incident occurred on May 7, shortly before he was set to graduate. As two gunmen, Devon Erickson and Alec McKinney, opened fire in a classroom, Kendrick’s heroic act allowed his classmates to subdue the attackers, significantly minimizing what could have escalated into a larger catastrophe. Reports stated that Kendrick was the only child of his parents, John and Maria Castillo, and was described by his prosecutor, George Brauchler, as a
