Abu Dhabi is set to welcome a new Sphere venue, marking the second location for the innovative multimedia entertainment structure, following the successful launch in Las Vegas. This announcement was made by Sphere Entertainment Co. and officials from Abu Dhabi's tourism sector on Tuesday. The new venue is part of the UAE's Tourism Strategy 2030, which aims to enhance the capital's status as a cultural and innovative hub. H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak emphasized that this project will elevate Abu Dhabi's global profile and set new standards in immersive experiences. While specific details about the venue's location remain undisclosed, it is expected to mirror the scale of the Las Vegas Sphere, which has a capacity of 20,000 and features the world's largest spherical structure and highest-resolution wraparound LED screen. The Las Vegas venue, which opened in September 2023, cost $2.3 billion and has already hosted major performances, including shows by U2. The partnership for the Abu Dhabi Sphere is still pending final agreements, which will include a franchise initiation fee to Sphere Entertainment, with construction funding provided by the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi. This development reflects a growing trend of integrating cutting-edge entertainment into urban landscapes, aiming to attract tourists and enhance cultural offerings in the region.
