Statues of Ray Lewis and Johnny Unitas relocated during M&T Bank Stadium renovations

The statues of Johnny Unitas and Ray Lewis, two iconic figures in Baltimore football history, have been temporarily moved from their usual location at M&T Bank Stadium to facilitate ongoing renovations. This relocation is part of a larger renovation project called 'The Next Evolution,' which aims to enhance the stadium experience for fans. The statues have been moved to the south side of the stadium, near Gate D, for the entire 2024 season, while construction on a new North Plaza is underway, set to open in 2025. Ray Lewis, who spent his entire 17-year career with the Baltimore Ravens, is celebrated for his significant contributions to the team, including two Super Bowl victories and numerous accolades. Johnny Unitas, a legendary quarterback for the Baltimore Colts, is also revered for his achievements, including leading his team to a Super Bowl championship and earning multiple MVP awards. Both players are enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, highlighting their impact on the sport. The renovations at M&T Bank Stadium are part of a comprehensive $430 million project, which is divided into three phases and expected to be completed by 2026. The first phase, which was completed in August, introduced a new roof deck, providing fans with a space to enjoy food and drinks before, during, and after games. Additionally, new on-field seating will enhance the fan experience by bringing them closer to the action. The Ravens' first home game of the season is scheduled against the Las Vegas Raiders, marking an exciting time for fans despite the ongoing construction. Once the renovations are completed, the statues of Lewis and Unitas will return to their original location outside Gate A, allowing fans to once again pay tribute to these football legends.
