US men’s gymnastics aims for dominance in 2023

In recent years, there has been a concerted effort to enhance boys' gymnastics in the United States, particularly through grassroots initiatives. One notable example is Jones, who started a boys' gymnastics program in Atlanta in 2019, aiming to provide opportunities for underserved boys. Despite lacking financial backing and adequate equipment, he has successfully implemented USA Gymnastics-approved lessons, leading to the formation of the only all-Black boys gymnastics team to win gold at the regional championships at level five. The scarcity of quality gymnastics programs for boys is a widespread issue, with many young athletes facing challenging schedules that limit their training opportunities. Historically, the U.S. had numerous high school gymnastics programs, but these have dwindled over time. USA Gymnastics is now advocating for the revival of these programs, recognizing that qualified coaches are essential for fostering talent at the school level. Looking ahead, the future of men's gymnastics in the U.S. hinges on building a strong foundation for young athletes. The lack of government funding for gymnastics programs contrasts with other sports, making it crucial to engage children in gymnastics from an early age.
