Story

Evanston, IL – Two men have been charged in connection with two separate shootings that occurred a day apart in north suburban Evanston, resulting in three individuals being injured. The first incident took place on Monday evening around 8:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Dempster Street, where police discovered two men, aged 41 and 50, who had sustained gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where their conditions were reported as stabilized. Authorities indicated that the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the two men. The second shooting occurred less than 24 hours later, around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, just a block away at the intersection of Dempster Street and Darrow Avenue. A victim, who had just parked his fiancée's car, was shot and subsequently taken to the hospital, where his condition was also stabilized. This incident was notably captured on cell phone video, which played a crucial role in the investigation. Following the review of the footage, police arrested 33-year-old Jerell Williams, charging him with one count of attempted murder. According to police reports, Williams was seen approaching the victim shortly after he exited the vehicle, carrying a bag of food from a nearby snack shop. In addition to these incidents, authorities are investigating a third shooting that occurred shortly after the second, around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, in the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue, where a 50-year-old man was shot in the hand. This case remains under investigation.
