Three Men Charged with Murder in Leicester Prison

Three men have been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 31-year-old inmate at HMP Fosse Way in Leicester. The inmate was discovered unresponsive in his cell on Tuesday and was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Midlands Ambulance Service. The accused, identified as Shaan Karim, 38, Thierry Robinson, 21, and Ashirie Smith, 18, have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at Leicester Magistrates Court on Friday. Two additional suspects, aged 27 and 28, were arrested on suspicion of murder but have since been released under investigation. HMP Fosse Way, a Category C prison that opened last year, is designed to house approximately 1,715 inmates. It was constructed on the site of the former HMP Glen Parva, which closed in 2017. A spokesperson for Serco confirmed the inmate's death and emphasized the prison's commitment to rehabilitation.
