Mesa, Arizona, is set to welcome a new semiconductor plant operated by KoMiCo, which will focus on repair, cleaning, and coating services. The facility is expected to create approximately 200 jobs upon its opening in 2026. This development aligns with broader efforts to enhance the semiconductor supply chain within the United States, as the country seeks to reduce its reliance on foreign manufacturing. The Arizona Commerce Authority has indicated that KoMiCo may qualify for the Quality Jobs Tax Credit, potentially amounting to $351,000. This incentive offers $3,000 per new quality job created over three years, aimed at fostering business investment and high-quality employment opportunities in the state. The new plant represents a $50 million capital investment and marks KoMiCo's third location in the U.S. Shawn Jang, CEO of KoMiCo U.S., expressed pride in partnering with the City of Mesa to further establish the region as a leading hub for semiconductor manufacturing. Local leaders, including Chris Camacho, President and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, emphasized that KoMiCo's advanced technology will enhance the Greater Phoenix area’s reputation in the semiconductor ecosystem, promoting further innovation and growth. The establishment of this plant comes amid significant funding for semiconductor companies like Intel and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company through the CHIPS and Science Act, as the industry faces challenges related to staffing and costs. The push for domestic semiconductor production is increasingly critical due to rising geopolitical tensions in Asia.
