Wilko to Return to UK High Streets
- Chris Dawson, owner of The Range, plans to bring back Wilko stores to UK high streets.
- Up to 300 Wilko stores are targeted for opening over the next five years.
- This expansion signifies a potential revival of a familiar retail brand in the UK.
Chris Dawson, the owner of The Range, has announced ambitious plans to expand the Wilko brand, which he rescued from administration last year. Over the next five years, Dawson aims to open up to 300 new Wilko stores, with an expectation of approximately 40 new locations each year. This expansion follows the recent launch of the sixth new store in Poole at the Dolphin Centre, marking a significant step in revitalizing the brand. Dawson expressed confidence in the brand's future, stating, "It's all systems go now." He acknowledged past missteps in product selection, admitting that the previous offerings lacked essential items. "We got the product mix wrong the first two times... and now we've got it right," he noted, emphasizing Wilko's historical strengths in health and beauty, cleaning products, and DIY essentials. While specific locations for the new stores have yet to be finalized, Dawson indicated that the expansion will focus on major cities such as Liverpool and Manchester, as well as smaller towns like Loughborough. He also hinted at a potential return of Wilko to London, broadening the brand's reach across the UK. Since December 1, 2023, Wilko has been actively launching new stores nationwide, with the latest opening on August 16. The brand's revival under Dawson's leadership signals a renewed commitment to providing essential products to a diverse customer base across various locations.
