Michigan coach Sherrone Moore secures contract amid sign-stealing probe

Sherrone Moore, the head coach of Michigan football, signed a five-year contract on September 6, 2023, which guarantees him an average salary of $5.7 million annually. This contract includes specific protections against termination for NCAA violations that occurred before its effective date, provided the university was aware of such violations. Moore is currently facing a Level II charge from the NCAA related to the deletion of text messages linked to a sign-stealing investigation involving former staffer Connor Stalions. The NCAA issued a formal notice of allegations to Michigan last month, which could lead to a ruling from the Committee on Infractions after the current season. While the contract protects Moore from being fired for past violations, it does allow for disciplinary actions, including suspension without pay, for any NCAA rule violations. Prior to this contract, Moore operated under a memorandum of understanding that was signed in January 2023, which required a full employment agreement to be finalized within 90 days.
