Story

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Guardians have placed right-hander Alex Cobb on the 15-day injured list due to a broken nail, further complicating the team's already troubled starting rotation. Cobb, who was acquired from the San Francisco Giants in a trade on July 30, has made only two starts for the Guardians, marking a challenging return to the mound after undergoing hip surgery last October. In his brief tenure with Cleveland, the 36-year-old Cobb achieved his first win in nearly a year, delivering a strong performance against the Chicago Cubs, where he allowed just one run and three hits over 5 2/3 innings. However, his injury adds to the mounting challenges faced by the Guardians, who have struggled with pitching injuries throughout the season. To fill Cobb's roster spot, the Guardians have selected left-hander Anthony Gose's contract from Triple-A Columbus. Additionally, the team has transferred left-hander Sam Hentges to the 60-day injured list. Hentges has been sidelined since July 10 and recently sought a second medical opinion regarding his condition. As the Guardians prepare to face the New York Yankees in a three-game series starting Tuesday, the team will need to navigate these pitching challenges while maintaining their position as leaders in the AL Central.
