CNN plans to start with an affordable subscription option to assess user interest, as many of its online visitors are not used to paying for news content. The move comes amid declining cable viewership, prompting CNN to explore new revenue streams through its digital platform. Unlike the previous CNN+ streaming service, which was deemed too costly, this new subscription model will focus on existing content rather than producing numerous exclusive shows, thereby minimizing expenses and maintaining relationships with cable partners. Earlier this year, CNN also experimented with a registration wall, asking users for their email addresses to access articles, indicating a gradual shift towards monetizing its online content.
