Yeshiva University basketball team perseveres after Hamas attacks

In October 2023, a tragic series of attacks by Hamas in Israel shocked the global community, particularly affecting Jewish populations worldwide. The Yeshiva University men's basketball team, which represents the oldest Jewish university in the United States, found itself in a profound state of grief, facing the challenge of continuing their season amidst this tragedy. With six Israeli players on the roster, the emotional weight was heavy, as many were concerned for family and friends living in Israel. Coach Elliot Steinmetz and the team were faced with the critical decision of whether to cancel their upcoming basketball season or to honor their commitments and play for their community in the wake of unspeakable loss. Dimon approached the project with sensitivity due to the nature of the subject matter, realizing that storytelling in the context of sports would take on a different significance given the situation they were all living through. As they navigated the complexities of attending to their athletic obligations alongside the grief of their community, the team focused on the symbolic importance of their season.
