Story

In November, EDF celebrated 25 years of operations in Britain, during which it has invested £25 billion. The company aims to enable an additional £50 billion investment by 2035 to develop 15GW of zero-carbon electricity. In 2023, EDF achieved a significant milestone by reducing carbon intensity at the point of generation to zero, supplying over 3.7 million homes and organizations, including the NHS, with zero-carbon electricity. Nuclear energy is central to EDF's strategy for a decarbonized energy system. Since acquiring Britain's nuclear fleet in 2009, EDF has invested £7.5 billion and plans to invest an additional £1.3 billion by 2026. The construction of Hinkley Point C, the first new nuclear power station in a generation, has created approximately 23,500 jobs and trained 1,320 apprentices. The project has also contributed £24 million to education and skills support, benefiting many from deprived areas. Hinkley Point C is expected to power 12 million homes, enhancing the UK's energy security with reliable, long-term, zero-carbon power. EDF Renewables is also expanding its renewable energy capacity, operating 1.5GW with 14GW in the pipeline, alongside 36 onshore wind farms and new solar farms. The company is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and is the only UK energy company with the Biodiversity Benchmark certification. Through partnerships like Electrify Britain with Octopus Energy, EDF aims to promote low-carbon technologies, reinforcing its role as a long-term partner in helping Britain transition to a clean energy superpower.
